If Rita had friends, they would be the members of the Slytherin house. However even they don’t quite classify as friends anyway. Just because she mildly enjoys the girls presence and the boys are great in bed doesn’t mean that they are immune to her rumor spreading, but they tolerate her because she can throw quite the party. Thus they have a mutual acquaintance. Obviously the other members of the house know that any time they talk to her they have a high chance of the conversation being published in “Rita’s Breaking News”, but Rita tends to have a way of making people talk anyway. With the Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs she tends to use fear to get the news that she wants, with the Ravenclaws she uses wit, and with the Slytherins she uses false compassion, to the point where, against their better judgments, the Slytherins think for maybe a moment that she cares about them, and not just herself. Rita snickers when she thinks about it. Caring about someone besides her? The thought is preposterous.
Although she uses this technique with the Slytherins, eavesdropping never fails to assist her cause. Especially on this occasion. Rita happened to have overheard a certain conversation between Narcissa Black and Lucius Malfoy outside of the Slytherin common room and decided it was about time to have a nice little chat about it with her “dear friend” Cissy. She waited until night to set the trap. She smuggled in some butterbeer into the Slytherin common room and sat at one of the tables in the corner with 2 chairs, giving a warning glare to anyone who tired to join her. Alcohol always helps loosen the tongue. Then when Narcissa finally retreated into the common room for the night she set it in action. “Cissy! Please save me by doing the honor of not letting an old friend have to drink alone! It seems as if no one is in the mood for butterbeer tonight. It is your favorite, isn’t it? It seems like it’s been forever since we’ve talked. Come! Sit!” she called out in her cheery tone, trying to sound a bit tipsy even and offering a warm smile.

When Narcissa entered the Slytherin common room after her chat with Lucius, her ears were immediately accosted by Rita’s shouts. She wasn’t really in the mood to chat with the gossipy girl; she wasn’t really in the mood to do anything really, except daydream about Lucius. Although, Rita was right - she did like butterbeer. In her mind, she rolled her eyes, but in reality, she headed over toward the table Rita was guarding.
“Hey Rita, how have you been since the start of term? I’m sure you’ve got a few tales you’re just dying to share with someone,” she teased. Narcissa was secretly a little glad to have someone to talk to, but she reminded herself firmly to keep her private thoughts, well, private. She had to be alert to any tricks Rita might try to pull. She reached out and grabbed the butterbeer Rita had just taken the top off of.

Rita managed to hide the cunning look in her eyes as Narcissa so easily took the trap. “Well of course I’ve got tales, I always do. If I didn’t you guys wouldn’t keep me around” she teased back. Of course she was dying to share it, but it wasn’t part of the plan. “But lets not talk about that now, I want to hear from you! It’s been far too long. So what’s new?”’ she asked very casually. Rita knew it wouldn’t be that easy, but it was worth a try. Then she opened herself a bottle of firewhiskey, preferring enjoying the risk of the potential burning sensation down her throat much more than the safe sweet taste of butterbeer. She found her and Cissy’s preferences in drinks ironic and quite fitting of their own personalities.

Narcissa lazily took a sip of Butterbeer; she knew Rita was impatient for her speak, but she enjoyed making the other girl squirm a bit. “Oh, nothing really new, you know? Same old, same old,” she said, smiling cheekily. She hoped she was covering up her impatience and annoyance adequately. She still needed to go obsess over her hair and makeup before dinner; Lucius needed to be impressed.
“What’s new with you, Rita?” she asked, hoping to steer the topic away from herself.

A challenge. Rita smiled, “oh nothing really. Parties have been dull. People have been busy studying, so I’ve just been here in the common room mostly. Drinking and listening.” she paused for a moment, thinking of her next attack, then smirked, but not enough so that it was noticed, “oh! Well I suppose I haven’t been alone that much. Lucius and I have had a few run ins…if you know what I mean. He’s quite a…talented man, handsome too.” she paused again, letting it set in. “Do you know him? I mean more than just seeing him around the common room and hearing stories?”. Cissy was smart, but if Rita’s assumptions were correct, she wouldn’t be able to resist adding onto the conversation, especially with him so recently on her mind.

OOC: Anyone want to para…? Maybe a fellow Slytherin so it won’t be a para where I am constantly plotting a way to destroy you? Haha

Oh and Narcissa, are you going to reply to my post? I saw that you liked it, but you didn’t respond. Haha

Erin O’Brien tries to hit on Rita Skeeter!

Yesterday it was seen just outside of Hogwarts on one of the surrounding walls that Erin O’Brien (5th year Gryffindor) attempted to hold hands with me, and she suggested much more! I simply came across the girl to compliment her on her bold choice of clothing when she came onto me. I suppose she took the compliment as a suggestion towards a more intimate friendship. I did not return the flirting, as to not lead her on.
The most shocking part of this story may not even be Erin’s obvious lesbian progressions, but rather that it was previously believed that she may have interest in a one, Hestia Jones (5th year Hufflepuff). Clearly any progress she had with that relationship will be ending as soon as Hestia finds out about Erin’s promiscuous ways.
Who could be the next victim of her outward sexual suggestions?

*Sent in letter form to Rita*
Dear Rita,
I saw your latest article and I really think you should write some type of retraction. Peoples choices on how they want their relationships should not be blasted for the world and someone trying to find a relationship is not looking for a victim. The way you wrote this article is horrid and mean, something Erin does not deserve. I’ve known Erin a lot longer than you have and no matter what she does not deserve to be spoken about like she is some kind of criminal. The way you talk about people is appalling and you need to rethink the way you treat people or one day it might just come back to you ten fold.
Sincerely,
Rolanda “Lulu” Elliott

Dearest Lulu,
You loyalty to your friend is charming. I will take your request into consideration. However I think you need to understand that what you are asking me to do is in violation of the pledge that I have made to myself to report the truth at all costs. My articles are about things that the people should be aware of and if I am to remove this article, I wouldn’t be giving my audience an honest representation of what is truly going around our school. As for rethinking the way I “treat people” at risk of it coming back at me, I’m willing to take that risk.
Best wishes,
Rita Skeeter

Erin was sitting on one of the stone walls of Hogwarts and looked towards the rolling hills and the never-ending greens of the forests. Her classes were over and she was already out of her uniform, finding Muggle clothing more comfortable to wear than such. Ever since growing her bangs out, she felt more confident, like she could do anything. That, and they will never annoy her again or catch fire from her experiments with fireworks. She smiled as a brown owl flew past her and into the distance beyond the clouds.
Erin supposes she should do her Potions research soon, but she felt rather lazy. Her muggle great-grandmother, a religious fanatic, once scolded her a long time ago, telling her not to fall to Sloth for that it was a dire sin. Erin, then very young, never quite understood her. Now that she is older, she understood what she meant, but Erin tosses it aside. Muggles and wizards alike are both prone to sin. It is a normality. No one could escape from sin, much less Sloth. Her immediate family raised Erin to be an open-minded being. She never felt particularly attached to religion. This was a distant memory. That’s all. Besides, isn’t she technically committing the ultimate sin for liking girls? Erin grinned at the thought. ‘Hey, great-granny. I bet you’re rolling in your grave right now, huh?’ Erin shook her head. Her thoughts trailed off once again. She had not a clue why she began to think of her great-granny since she has been dead for years now. Perhaps she was starting to miss her family? No, Erin smiled again to herself as she looked down the great stone walls of her school. No because Hogwarts is her home right now. A cool breeze whisked through her hair and fluttered her light dress. It was getting cold; evening approaches soon. She continued to stare off into the distance, lost in reverie.

Rita was just doing her regular rounds across the castle, when she spotted a figure sitting on one of the stone walls of the school. Alone. Perfect. she thought, knowing a helpless victim when she saw one. Rita could get what she wanted out of anyone no matter how many people were around, but it always went much quicker when there weren’t any witnesses. As she got closer she identified the figure as Erin, a 5th year Gryffindor and immediately starting thinking of any talk, rumors, or gossip she had heard about her. One obvious one came to mind.
“Erin, darling. I didn’t even see you here.” Rita smirked as she approached the poor girl. “What brings you to this part of the castle, you seem to be deep in thought. Care to share what’s going on in that little head of yours?” She looked the girl up and down with a clearly judgmental glare “and what exactly are you wearing?”

Erin looked around and saw Rita approaching her. Rita, Erin mused, a 5th year Slytherin, who is known for her vicious habit of spreading rumors and is true to her House. Too bad her personality is not as beautiful as she looks.
She lightly hummed to herself and spoke kindly, “Good evening, Rita. It is nice to see you doing well.” She pushed herself off the wall and stood face to face to Rita.”What thoughts that belie in my mind is for my mind alone. Besides, it is nothing that would interest you, I am certain. If it were, I’m sure the entire school would know due to your wonderful skills in conversation, even without me telling you.” She trailed off and then smiled warmly. “My dress? Oh, do you love it?” She picked at the light fabric of her dress. “My mother made it for a special occasion over the summer break, but I love it. It is such a comfortable dress, so much I could wear it all the time!” She pulled at the edges of her dress, twirled then semi-curtsied at Rita. She straightened up and laughed, making it obvious that she was being silly.
She looked over to the setting sun and feels the breeze cooling even more as seconds passed. “I should probably go back in now, huh?” She turned her shoulders towards the entrance back into Hogwarts. She was making it a point to make her leave.

Rita was not pleased by the filthy mudblood’s attitude, but the kept the smile on her face just as it had been before, trying to seem unphased. “You’d be surprised how little it takes to entertain me. I’m sure your thoughts were certainly do the trick. As for the rest of the school knowing, you certainly don’t need me to assure that. You’re doing a fine enough job of it yourself, what with you constantly prancing around the school holding hands with that Hestia girl. The rumors practically write themselves.” Rita said in a sarcastically sweet voice laced with cruelty. She usually liked to be less blunt, tricking her victims into admitting things themselves, but the stupid girl had quite frankly pissed her off, and she wanted reprisal. Her smile faded as Erin tried to show off the garment she was wearing, turning into a judgmental smirk. “Yes, you should go back in. You wouldn’t want anyone else seeing you in that thing. So run along now to Hestia.”

She grinned, genuinely unphased. “You know, Rita…” She suddenly took Rita’s hands into hers and held it up between them. “You’d be surprised what holding hands can do to people and their hearts, dear Rita.” She thumbed Rita’s thin fingers entwined between hers. “Sometimes a simple touch can warm their hearts. Knowing that the hand, this hand, is supporting them and says that…” She leaned closed to Rita. “I’m here for you.” She whispered in her ear as her voice dropped several octaves, sounding drastically different than her normal lilting voice. “I’ll hold you.” She smiled in a strangely seductive way. While she did mean all these things, true to her attitude; the belying purpose was to throw Rita off her guard, even just for a millisecond.
Then the air cleared and became normal as she released Rita’s hand. Erin leaned back away from the Slytherin and continued as normal, “And of course, I’d seek out Hestia. She’s my dearest and closest friend after all.” She smiled brightly. “It was nice seeing you, Rita.” Erin’s smile turned slightly suggestive and then went back to normal as she took her leave.

Rita quickly yanked her hands away from Erin’s grasp, giving her a disgusted look. On occasion Rita would get a little more…physical..to get a story, but she knew that trying that with a girl would be crossing a line she didn’t particularly care to cross.
"…likewise." she said as the girl started to depart. Rita smiled as she moved out of her sight. The meeting hadn’t gone at all like she expected, but she still found something that could work for her.

Rita has made it her goal to find out every secret about every student, who knows what will happen when she finds out a secret that’s actually true, Other than her own of course.
